PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which can easily obtain appropriate fixing conditions that satisfy desired fixing quality for various paper forms and that can reduce power consumption. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has a fixed sample output function that fixes a toner image of a predetermined sample pattern in a plurality of different fixing conditions (sample A to E) and outputs the result. When the fixed sample output function is executed, the image forming apparatus executes image forming while changing a fixing temperature of a fixing device and outputs the samples fixed at a plurality of fixing temperatures. A user checks the output fixed sample and determines actual fixing quality for a paper form to be used for each of the fixing conditions. Further, the user selects a fixed sample which satisfies the desired fixing quality and in which fixing is performed at the lowest fixing temperature. By executing printing in fixing conditions corresponding to the selected fixed sample, it is possible to reliably reduce power consumption without losing fixing quality. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
