<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus easily checking whether information is included in a specific area on an original and whether information is included in another specific area; and to provided a control method thereof and a program. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus processes image data obtained by reading an image on the original. In the image processing apparatus, position information on a first area which is an optional area on the original and determined to be normal when including predetermined information and position information on a second area which is determined to be normal when not including the predetermined information and is different from the first area are registered in a RAM 19, the image data obtained by reading the image on the original by a scanner 15 is input and areas corresponding to the registered position information on the first and second areas are specified from the input image data, whether the specific areas each include the predetermined information is determined, and result information showing whether a result of the determination match the registered contents is output to an operation unit 16 or printer 14.
