<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording device, which can avoid incomplete printing due to insufficient paper length by preliminarily recognizing the residual paper quantity, although it can respond to various types of roll paper. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The recording device configured so that a recording part provided on the downstream side in paper feeding direction of a roll of paper wound on a core shaft forms an image on the paper includes: a roll setting part; a near end detection means; a first paper detection sensor; a pair of feeding rollers; a second paper detection sensor; a branch claw; an intermediate winding roller, the branch claw being provided to be rotatably driven between a printing feed position for feeding the paper to the recording part and an intermediate winding position for supplying the paper to the intermediate winding roller; and a temporary winding control part.
