PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that high sealing performance is required due to the increase of a pressure variation accompanied by the moving of a carriage in order to secure assisting pressure enabling ink to be supplied, and a stable ink supply cannot be performed. SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes: an ink cartridge 40 which houses the ink supplied to a recording head 10; a pressurizing mechanism 80 which pressurizes the inside of the ink cartridge 40; and a buffer tank 30 for temporarily storing the ink which is supplied from the ink cartridge 40 through a feeding tube 42. The buffer tank 30 has a differential pressure valve 103 which is installed between a pressurizing chamber 101 and a negative pressure chamber 102. An assisting pressure control section 90 drive-controls the pressurizing mechanism 80 in such a manner that the pressure of the ink cartridge 40 and the pressure applied to the differential pressure valve 103 of the buffer tank 30 may become approximately constant while being adjusted to the reciprocate-moving motion of the carriage 4 according to an assisting pressure profile.
