PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method for measuring an underwater position, for simply and precisely measuring the underwater position of a measurement point, without being affected by temperature and specific gravity of water. SOLUTION: A tubular underwater staff 2 having a GPS antenna 13 on its upper end is held in its standing state so as to position its lower end at the underwater measurement point P being an object to be measured, and position data transmitted serially from the GPS antenna 13 are received by a data receiver 14 and input into a control device 15, and an incline angle of a wire 18 which is disposed inside the underwater staff 2 so as to be tense in the tube-axis direction, is detected serially by an inclinometer 17, and the detected incline angle is input into the control device 15, and position data are chosen only when the incline angle is equal to or less than a preset allowable incline angle a1, and two or more chosen sets of the position data are averaged, thereby deriving the position data of the measurement point P and displaying them as measurement point position data on a monitor 16.
