PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmission power controller capable of automatically monitoring variation of the reception level of the reception signal owing to a change in climate and capable of controlling the power of the transmission signal in accordance with the variation, and to provide a transmission power control method. SOLUTION: A control section 12 monitors the occurrence of an abnormality in a frequency conversion section 11 and a reception level detecting section 15. If no abnormality occurs, the control section 12 automatically controls the attenuation amount of an attenuator 111 by referring to the reception level of the reception signal. When an abnormality occurs in at least any one of the frequency conversion section 11 and the reception level detecting section 15, the control of the attenuation amount of the attenuator 111 is stopped.
