PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical element having high productivity and superior antireflection properties.

SOLUTION: The optical element includes a substrate and many structures which are arranged on the surface of the substrate at a fine pitch which is smaller than the wavelength of visible light, and each of which includes protrusions or recesses. Respective structures are arranged so as to make tracks of two or more rows on the surface of the substrate and form a quasi-hexagonal lattice pattern, tetragonal lattice pattern or quasi-tetragonal lattice pattern. Wherein, at least a part of lower parts of mutually adjacent structures is superimposed on each other.
