<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a remote management system of an image forming apparatus improved in maintenance properties and extensibility about collection of management information required by a management device from a device to be managed. <P>SOLUTION: In the remote management system, a central management device 4 manages a plurality of image forming apparatuses 1 and 3 directly or through an intermediate apparatus 2 via a communications network 5. In each of the image forming apparatuses 1 and 3, definition information serving as a target of remote management by the central management apparatus 4 is registered previously. Based on the definition information, information of the own apparatus is operated, and management information as the operation result is reshaped by data representation conversion to be transmitted to the central management apparatus 4 or the intermediation apparatus 2.
