POSITION SENSOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position sensor which accurately measures relative displacement between two or more objects, especially a position of a valve plug in a control valve assembly.

SOLUTION: The magnetic type noncontact position sensor consisting of a flux source and a sensor housing is used. This flux source is an array of two or more individual magnets 50-56 optionally-determined so as to produce a highly-configurable flux source which can easily be adapted to rotational or rectilinear displacement. Interactions of each magnetic field produced by these individual magnets 50-56 are controlled so as to develop both linear and nonlinear relations for variation in displacement. A flux gathering pole piece integrates a lot of individual magnetic fields and then directs them to the magnetic sensor 35.
