PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel process for producing an amorphous red phosphor. SOLUTION: A process for producing an amorphous red phosphor represented by general formula M1<SB>x</SB>Eu<SB>y</SB>SiO<SB>2+x+1.5y</SB>(wherein M1 is at least one element selected from Ca, Sr and Ba; 0.6≤x+1.5y≤0.9) includes calcining a phosphor precursor obtained by a solution method at 800-930°C. An amorphous red phosphor is represented by general formula M1<SB>x</SB>Eu<SB>y</SB>SiO<SB>2+x+1.5y</SB>(wherein M1 is at least one element selected from Ca, Sr and Ba; 0.6≤x+1.5y≤0.9).
