PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an airfoil mechanism capable of making a part of the geometry of an airfoil variable, the airfoil being subject to fluid flow. SOLUTION: The airfoil mechanism 15 which is subject to the fluid flow when in use comprises outer surface parts 24b, 25b whose geometry is variable so as to affect the fluid flow and a support structure 31 that supports the outer surface parts. The support structure is included inside the airfoil mechanism, while having a plurality of support members made of composite materials, whereas the geometry of the support structure is changeable, by an actuating device 50, between a first stable geometry and a second stable geometry so as to effect variation in the geometry of the outer surface parts, with the support members providing structural stiffness to the outer surface parts.
