PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector and the like, which prevent projection of unintended image light in a condition where the image light from the projector is ready to be projected by a remote control operation. SOLUTION: The projector 100 includes: a light receiving section 110, provided on a side the image light is projected, to which image light projection instruction information from the remote controller 200 is input; a light receiving section 111, provided on a non-projection side of the image light, to which the image light projection instruction information from the remote controller 200 is input; a determination section 130 which determines whether the image light projection instruction information input to the light receiving section 110 is valid or not based on setting data 122; and a controller 150 which performs control based on the image light projection instruction information input to the light receiving sections 110 and 111 when the determination result indicates validity, while performing control based on the image light projection instruction information input to the light receiving section 111 when the determination result indicates invalidity.
