PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a post positioning device and a post positioning method for a toroidal type continuously variable transmission reducing working man-hours. SOLUTION: An arm member 140 includes a first contact part 153 and a second contact part 163 provided on both sides of a rotation axis X1 on a line L1 passing through the rotation axis X1 within a plane orthogonal to the rotation axis X1. The first contact part 153 is brought into contact with a first post 100, and the second contact part 163 is brought into contact with a second post 110, with the arm member 140 rotatable around the rotation axis X1 within the plane, relative positioning of the first post 100 and second post 110 is performed.
