<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a proximity sensor for determining the proximity direction of a body. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A relative detecting sensitivity is established to make the detecting level of a first detecting unit 21 higher than that of a second detecting unit 22 when the body comes close to a first electrode 17 in an array direction of the first electrode 17 and a second electrode 18, and to make the detecting level of the second detecting unit 22 higher than that of the first detecting unit 21 when the body comes close to from a direction normal to the array direction. A proximity position detecting means C determines the proximity direction of the body from the detecting levels of the first detecting unit 21 and the second detecting unit 22.
