<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact and light-weight articulated driving mechanism with a new construction capable of surely holding an object in little operation noise. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the articulated driving mechanism 10, an electrostrictive actuator formed using a dielectric element 42 with electrode layers 46a, 46b formed on both sides of a dielectric film 44 made of a dielectric elastomer is respectively adopted for a first driving means 38 for driving arm members 18, 20 in one direction around support shafts 22, 26 and for a second driving means 40 for driving the arm members 18, 20 in the other direction around the support shafts 22, 26.
