PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for encoding/decoding image based on residual value static adaptive code table selection according to a context model are provided to encode current pixel residual in consideration of the residual value. CONSTITUTION: A context model unit(110) is presently encoded pixel with reference to one or more pixel value. A numerical selection unit(120) decides a residual value group according to the property of the display area in which a plurality of residual value groups encoded based on the context model pitching residual value belongs. The numerical selection unit selects the code table based on 'the context model pitching and 'the residual value group.
