<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an orthogonal frequency division multiplex (OFDM) optical communication system capable of shortening a cyclic prefix to be added. <P>SOLUTION: The optical communication system includes: an optical transmitter for transmitting an optical signal subjected to orthogonal frequency division multiplexing modulation to an optical transmission path; an optical receiver for receiving the optical signal from the optical transmission path; and a dispersion compensator for compensating wavelength dispersion between the optical transmitter and the optical receiver, or between the optical receiver and the optical transmission path. The optical communication system uses, as a compensation amount in the dispersion compensator, a value determined on the basis of the length of the cyclic prefix of the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing modulation and the maximum value of wavelength difference of a subcarrier used in the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing modulation. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
