<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light receiving/emitting device which integrates a light emitting element and a light receiving element in monolithic manner, allowing separate light volume detection. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A light emitting element 100 of a light receiving/emitting device 1000 includes a first portion and a mirror part. The first portion constitutes at least a first clad layer 104, an active layer 106 provided above the first clad layer, and a second clad layer 108 provided above the active layer. At least a part of the active layer constitutes light guides 142 and 144. The active layer generates light in the light guide, and the light guide is provided on the side of the mirror part. It includes a reflecting surface for reflecting the light generated at the light guide and an emission surface which is provided on the side of the active layer for emitting the light generated at the light guide. A light receiving element 200 includes a light absorbing layer 206, and receives light which is a part of the light that has penetrated the reflecting surface and has been diffracted toward the light absorption layer by the mirror part.
