<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cup-shaped electrode capable of: achieving longer lifetime of a cold-cathode tube at a large-sized backlight device with high luminance; reducing manufacturing cost of the cold-cathode tube; and improving reliability of the cold-cathode tube. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The cup-shaped electrode 110 has a cup-shaped electrode body 112 formed with first metal (for example, Ni) capable of performing deep-drawing press work, and a plating film 114 formed on the whole surface of the cup-shaped electrode body 112 and made of second metal (for example, a NiW alloy) which has a high melting point rather than the first metal and can perform welding.
