PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a contact image sensor of size corresponding to prescribed read width, by providing sensor units as minimum units and connecting them. SOLUTION: The contact image sensor includes a light guide for irradiating a target with light from a light source; an imaging means of converging, at different positions in the subscanning direction; first reflected light flux and second light flux reflected by a mirror having a reflecting surface for reflecting scattered light reflected by the target to subscanning sides, in mutually opposite directions; a first sensor substrate for outputting an image signal from a first internal terminal, by digitally converting the first reflected light flux converged by the imaging means; a second sensor substrate for outputting an image signal from a second internal terminal by digitally converting the second reflected light flux converged by the imaging means; a signal processing substrate, electrically connected to the first sensor substrate and the second sensor substrate and processing image signal outputs from the first sensor substrate and the second sensor substrate via a bus line, and a housing for housing them.
