PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a welding machine which can shorten time for making a welding electrode touch a workpiece to be welded and which, in addition, can make the welding electrode touch the workpiece softly. SOLUTION: The welding machine is equipped with a hydraulic cylinder 17 and a pneumatic cylinder 23 which are connected to each other in series. One of the cylinders is fixed and the other cylinder is fixed to the piston rod of one cylinder, and the welding electrode 9 is fixed to the piston rod of the other cylinder. The pneumatic cylinder 23 has a shorter stroke than the hydraulic cylinder 17. The hydraulic cylinder 17 advances the hydraulic piston rod 17A so as to advance the welding electrode 9 until the interval between the welding electrode 9 and the workpiece to be welded comes to a prescribed distance. When the welding electrode 9 touches the workpiece to be welded, the pneumatic cylinder 23 gives pressing force to the workpiece to be welded via the pneumatic piston rod 23A.
