<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer capable of saving printing media consumed by a loading process, reducing the processing time of the loading process and preventing lowering of performance of a printing process. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The printer including a plurality of conveying passages 5 for guiding the printing medium 9 to a print engine 2 and a plurality of feeders 3 for feeding the print medium 9 to the respective conveying passages 5 selectively switches a feeder 3 for feeding the printing medium 9 to the print engine 2 and prints. In the printer, the printing medium 9 is conveyed from the feeder 3 which is instructed to load until a waiting position sensor 7 detects its tip. After the waiting position sensor 7 detects the tip, the tip is positioned at a print waiting position P set on the conveying passage 5 without feeding the printing medium 9 to the print engine 2.
