<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure a stable operation by inexpensively and effectively using an electromotive force by an inertia rotation of a drum in a predrying operation using a heat pump. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A drum motor 7, a fan motor 27 for sending air to the interior of a drum 3, and a compressor 28 of the heat pump for heating the air sent from a fan are supplied with an AC power based on a DC power supply of rectifying and smoothing circuits 22 and 23, by inverter circuits 24, 25 and 26. A relay 34 is serially connected to an AC power supply 21. In the predrying operation, a control section 29 actuates the drum motor and, simultaneously with spin drying, actuatingly controls the fan motor and the compressor to send hot air. In that case, after spin-drying for a predetermined time, a drum motor inverter circuit is stopped and at the same time, the relay is opened to cut off the power supply to the rectifying and smoothing circuits. On the other hand, when the electromotive force by the inertia rotation of the drum is lowered from a predetermined amount, the relay is returned to the closed state.
