PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive inorganic fiber blanket with slight basis weight variations as well, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The inorganic fiber blanket 1 includes: filament layers 2 based on inorganic filaments having an average fiber length of 3,000μm or longer; and staple fiber layers 3 essentially consisting of staple fibers having an average fiber length of 2,000μm or shorter; wherein the filament layers 2 and the staple fiber layers 3 are alternately laminated with one another. In the blanket, by conducting needling, part of the filaments of the filament layers 2 are intruded into staple fiber layers 3; thereby interlacing the filament layers 2 and the staple fiber layers 3 to effect unification. As the staple fibers, those obtained by disaggregating odd materials discharged from an alumina filament sheet cut-out step (optionally, punching step) in producing an alumina filament product are used.
