PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an object detecting apparatus for highly accurately detecting an object. SOLUTION: The object detecting apparatus 3 for detecting an object on the basis of comparison between an input image picked up by an imaging means 3a and a background image picked up at the same place as the input image includes: a color change tendency calculation means 3d for calculating the color change tendency of the input image to the background image at each corresponding image position; reference value setting means 3d, 3e and 3f for setting the reference value of the color change tendency; and an object detection means 3g for detecting the object on the basis of the color change tendency calculated in the color change tendency calculation means and the reference value of the color change tendency set in the reference value setting means.
