PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a combustion control device of a compression ignition type internal combustion engine which can control the generation of unburned fuel or smoke. SOLUTION: The combustion control device 30 of the compression ignition type internal combustion engine 1 performs advance injection before main injection and unevenly distributes a fuel-air mixture which is leaner than the stoichiometry by the advance injection and a fuel-air mixture which is richer than the stoichiometry by the main injection in a combustion chamber before ignition. The combustion control device 30, which starts combustion in this state, is provided with an oxygen concentration detection means 43 and a control means 30. The oxygen concentration detection means 43 detects the intake oxygen concentrations, and the control means 30 controls at least either the ratio between the injection amount of the main injection and the injection amount of the advance injection or the injection timing of the advance injection based on the oxygen concentrations detected by the oxygen concentration detection means 43.
