PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a biometric authentication apparatus that authenticates a user intuitively and easily.

SOLUTION: The biometric authentication apparatus for authenticating a user on the basis of biological information on a finger of a user includes: a storing means storing a reference guide showing a proper posture of the finger of the user and a guide for adjusting the posture of the finger of the user to the posture shown by the reference guide; an irradiation means for irradiating the finger of the user with light; a transmission means for transmitting the light of a predetermined wavelength; a display means arranged within the range of the transmission means or in the vicinity thereof to display the reference guide or the guide stored in the storage means; a determination means for determining the posture of the finger of the user on the basis of distance information obtained by calculating reflection light of the irradiated laser light; a display control means for displaying the reference guide or the guide of the posture determined by the determination means; and an authentication means for authenticating the user when the determination means determines that the finger of the user is in a posture shown by the reference guide.
