<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for processing image data for compression in one embodiment. <P>SOLUTION: Herein, image data represents an image and includes a plurality of image data values. Each image data value represents an appearance characteristic of a pixel of the image. In one embodiment, the method includes: determining variance among n image data values; comparing the variance among n image data values for determining whether or not the variance satisfies previously selected conditions regarding a variance threshold; comparing the variance with the variance threshold; and, when the variance satisfies the previously selected conditions, changing at least one of the n image data values in order to reduce the variance. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT</p> |
