<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine suppressing a decrease in working efficiency caused by providing a cylinder internal pressure sensor. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In this internal combustion engine 1, an ignition device mounting hole 50 for inserting an ignition device 40 and a sensor mounting hole 60 for inserting the cylinder internal pressure sensor 72 are formed in an engine body 10. The ignition device mounting hole 50 and sensor mounting hole 60 are formed in such a form that the axis C1 of the ignition device mounting hole 50 and the axis C2 of the sensor mounting hole 60 are contained on the same plane and in such a form that these axes C1, C2 become parallel to each other on the plane.
