Class 86 [Also in Group V] The counterthrust bearing 6 is freely mounted on the screw shaft 3 a n d is rapidly rotated so as to maintain an oil film between it and the thrust bearing 5 of the screw and between it and the casing 1. If the screw revolves at 6-30 r.p.m. the bearing 6 may revolve at 1500 r.p.m. As shown, there are two intermeshing screws and their counter-thrust bearings also mesh, one of them being driven by gear 7 on shaft 8.
