A gate comprises a gate section that is movable along a preferably prescribed track that features a rectilinear running section for the most part between a closed position and an open position. A controller controls the gate section movement and generates first control signals for stopping the gate section movement in the event of leaving the prescribed track to generate second control signals. An independent claim is also included for the method of monitoring closing movement of gate section of gate.
