A preprocessing unit (2) is provided which is arranged to first process an input signal to obtain a representation (3) of the input signal in the time-frequency domain. A texture determination unit (4) connected to the preprocessing unit (2) is arranged to subsequently segment the representation in the time-frequency domain into a plurality of regions, in which each region is of a type corresponding to one of a plurality of basic signal textures, in which a basic signal texture is a coherent region in the time frequency domain representation with one or more characteristic properties. An input source classifier (6) is connected to the texture determination unit and arranged to analyze each of the plurality of regions according to the type of basic signal texture to obtain input signal source information.
