A method, processing system, and computer program product for determining an optimal route between a first and second location. In one form, the method includes, in a processing system, steps of obtaining input data indicative of the first and second location; obtaining real time traffic data; generating predicted traffic congestion data using the real time traffic data and historical traffic data; and determining, from a plurality of potential routes between the first and second location, an optimal route for a commuter travelling between the first and second location based upon the predicted traffic congestion data.
