The masking device comprises a mask (20) for covering an area of a surface (12) of a component (10), and a magnet arrangement (30) for holding the mask on the surface of the component. The magnet arrangement is partially imbedded in the mask and is connected by a barb, a latching member or a screw joint or clamping with the mask. The mask has a first side that is arranged on the surface of the component, and a second side that is turned away from the surface of the component. The magnet arrangement is arranged to the second side of the mask. The masking device comprises a mask (20) for covering an area of a surface (12) of a component (10), and a magnet arrangement (30) for holding the mask on the surface of the component. The magnet arrangement is partially imbedded in the mask and is connected by a barb, a latching member or a screw joint or clamping with the mask. The magnet arrangement is arranged to the second side of the mask. The mask and the magnet arrangement have a magnetizable or magnetized material. The mask and the magnet arrangement are arranged on opposite sides of the component in order to fix the mask through clamping the component between the mask and the magnet arrangement.
