The heating unit (1) has a fast mode heating zone (16), which is heated with priority, and another subordinate heating zone (16'), which is heated. A temperature sensor is provided for determining temperature at the fast mode heating zone and a switching device is provided, which is switched on at latter heating zone on reaching a minimum temperature at the fast mode. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating heating unit.
