Disclosed are compounds, pharmaceutical compositions containing the compounds, methods for using the compounds and processes for making the compounds. More specifically, the disclosure relates to alpha-(N-benzenesulfonamido)cycloalkyl compounds that may inhibit one or both of: (i) the functioning of a γ-secretase enzyme; or (ii) the production of &bgr;-amyloid. Such compounds may be beneficial in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease and other conditions. Representative compounds have the following formula I: wherein: A, R1, and R2 are described herein.
