A non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery has a positive electrode containing a positive electrode active material containing a lithium-containing oxide active material, a negative electrode, and a non-aqueous electrolyte. The lithium-containing oxide active material is represented by the general formula LiaMgbMO2±α, where 0.65≦̸a≦̸1.05, 0<b≦̸0.3, 0 ≦̸α≦̸0.3, and M is at least one of manganese and cobalt.
