USE OF A COMPOUND FOR THE TREATMENT OF A LESION PRODUCED BY POSTISCHEMIC REPERFUSION

The present invention relates to the use of the compound CR-6 (3,4-dihydro-6-hydroxy-7-methoxy-2,2-dimethyl-1(2H)-benzopyran) or of a derivative compound for the treatment of a lesion produced in given individuals as a consequence of reperfusion following an episode of cerebral ischemia. Such lesion is known as a reperfusion lesion and is associated with specific early signs such as reactive hyperaemia when said postischaemic reperfusion occurs. The present invention demonstrates that not all individuals who have suffered ischemia will respond favourably to treatment with this compound, solely those presenting signs of reperfusion lesion wherein said sign is hyperperfusion or reactive hyperaemia. Hyperperfusion is considered to occur when cerebral blood flow exceeds 20% of the base value, a condition not satisfied in all subjects who have suffered cerebral ischemia/reperfusion.
