The invention relates to transport equipment including at least one vehicle (11) moving longitudinally back and forth along a single traffic lane (10) and being guided by two guide members (19, 20) each taking one of the side arms of the track in a crossing area. The vehicle (11) includes two separate locking mechanisms associated with the two guide members (19, 20), respectively, and each capable of temporarily retaining the vehicle (11) in a direction lateral to the associated guide member (19, 20). Such locking mechanisms constitute onboard means for selecting the arm associated with the moving direction thereof when entering the crossing area.
