Angular bending; drawing.-In a method of making part or semi-cylindrical bearing liners from plain or composite strip material, the strip is preformed to approximately part or semicircular cross-section and thereafter the crosssection is set to its predetermined uniform radius of curvature by passing the strip longitudinally between rolls 10, 10a, whereby pressure is exerted on the edges of the section while the outer periphery is supported. The strip may be preformed by drawing through rolls 6, 6a, 7, 7a, &c. by means of a chaindriven gripper 12, or any or all of the rolls may be driven, the pressure being adjusted to the minimum necessary for frictional feed of the material so as to avoid squeezing the material. Alternatively the strip may be preformed in a drawing die device 15-17, Figs. 7, 8, or by pressing suitable lengths in a conventional press. The formed strip is preferably re-passed through the setting rolls in the reverse direction. |
