[Also in Group XXXV] The speed of a small electric motor is maintained constant at a predetermined speed by a device comprising a non- rotatable make- and-break switch having a pair of contacts 24 one of which is pivotally mounted on an insulating member 31 and is pressed towards the other contact and towards the end of an axially-movable element 30 of the governor by means of a spring 32 the loading of which is adjustable to set the governor for different speeds. The pressure of the spring 32 is predetermined by setting the position of a member 37 acting on this spring through a block 40. At selector speed, the element 30 of the governor forces the member 31 to open the contacts 24 against the spring 32. An actuating knob 38 secured to one end of the member 37 is arranged to turn the latter and to cause it to move axially through the engagement of a pin 41 carried by the block 40 with a helical groove 42 in the wall of the member 37. Thus the pre-setting of the knob 38 alters the spring compression and consequently alters the speed at which the contacts 24 should open by the governor force.</p> |
