The invention relates to a method for monitoring non-linear distortions in a fiber-optic transmission system, e.g. in an optical OFDM system. At the transmitter, an electrical time domain training signal is generated, with the signal values of the electrical time domain signal essentially lying on a common line through the origin of the complex plane. E.g. the signal values of the electrical signal may be real-valued signal values. The electrical time domain signal may be an OFDM time domain signal. The electrical time domain signal is converted into an optical signal. The optical signal is transmitted via a fiber link. At the receiver, based on the received optical signal, a received electrical time domain signal having received signal values (22, 23) is generated. A monitor signal for monitoring non-linear distortions is generated by determining a measure for the deviation of the received signal values (22, 23) from a common line (21) in the complex plane. |
