<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrolyte and an electrolyte film having proton conductivity, excellent mechanical strength and heat resistance, without causing the degradation of proton conductivity even used in an environment where water coexists for a long time. <P>SOLUTION: The electrolyte is provided with a methaloxane polymer with ion conductivity and a reinforcing material reinforcing the methaloxane polymer. In this case, it is preferable that the methaloxane polymer has a M<SB>1</SB>-O-M<SB>2</SB>bond (M<SB>1</SB>and M<SB>2</SB>are metallic elements), and comprises a polymer chain having a three dimensional cross-linked structure, an acid radical connected to the polymer chain through a first organic group, and a second organic group with its one end connected to the polymer chain.
