<p>A cycle pedal 1 comprises a pedal housing 2 which rotates about a shaft 3, the shaft extending from the housing to engage in the end of a bicycle crank arm, the pedal housing having at least one foot surface 4 to engage with the foot of a cyclist, at least one pressure sensor 5 on one or each foot surface to generate a pressure signal representing the pressure applied by a foot to the pedal, and transfer means 10,11 to transfer said pressure signal to a remote location. The transfer means may be wireless. The pedal may further comprise generator comprising magnets 6,7 and coils 6A,B, 7A,B adapted to both power the transfer means and provide a further signal indicative of the speed and direction of rotation of the pedal 1. The pedal may form part of the control system of an electrically assisted bicycle.</p> |
