Arterivirus glycoprotein 5 virus-like particles

The present invention provides a method for the production of a virus-like particle comprising an arterivirus full-length GP 5 protein and/or an arterivirus GP 5 protein with a modified C-terminus or a functional homologue thereof. The method further comprises transfecting the mammalian cell with a nucleic acid coding for said GP 5 protein, upon which the cell will secrete virus-like particles into a cell culturing medium. Such virus-like particles can be effectively used for vaccination purposes.
