The invention monitors a wide variety of activity at a user telecommunication terminal which is input into a policy to determine an availability score. The importance of incoming telecommunication invitations is also determined 350 and compared to the availability score. External sensors may also be utilised, such as cameras, motion sensors, temperature sensors 340. In the event that an invitation is rejected the caller may enter a password which can override the availability determination and force acceptance of the communication session 380.
