PURPOSE: A composition containing spiperone for treating neurogenerative disease is provided to strongly suppress inflammation with less cytotoxicity. CONSTITUTION: A composition for treating neurodegenerative disease contains spiperone. Spiperone suppresses NO generation of glial cells. Spiperone suppresses NF-kappa B and p38 MAPK activation. The suppression inhibits expression of proinflammatory cytokine expression. The neurodegenerative diseases include Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Lou Gehrig's disease, Huntington's disease, or senile dementia.
