PURPOSE: A method of a portable terminal for taking pictures and a portable terminal performing the same are provided to conveniently check if a photographed image is in focus and to re-control focus, thereby photographing a clear image. CONSTITUTION: A display area of a portable terminal is divided into a first area and a second area if a picture photographing mode is activated. An area selected from a photographed image in a second area is expanded and displayed. It an event which shows a focus control is generated, a control unit(520) re-controls the focus of the photographed image to fix the focus in the selected area. A coordinate of the selected area is obtained.
