PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for a variable valve train capable of suitably controlling the operation of a variable valve train even if a sensor having a relatively narrow detectable pressure range is used. SOLUTION: The control device 1 for a variable valve train includes steps of: calculating an upper limit rotation speed NECVTH and a lower rotation limit speed NECVTL based on an engine water temperature TW (steps 1-2 in Fig.5(not shown)); permitting the operation of a cam phase variable mechanism 10 when an engine speed NE>NECVTH is satisfied (steps 11-13 in Fig.6); prohibiting the operation of the cam phase variable mechanism 10 when NE≤NECVTL is satisfied (steps 14, 18 in Fig.6); and permitting the operation of the cam phase variable mechanism 10 when NECVTL<NE≤NECVTH is satisfied and hydraulic oil pressure POIL detected by a hydraulic sensor 23 reaches operation limit hydraulic pressure POILLIM or higher (steps 14, 16, 13 in Fig.6).
