<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily switch a printing manner to intermediate transfer printing and direct printing in a simple configuration. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The printer includes: a determining unit 40 which determines whether a selectively set print medium is an intermediate transfer print medium or a direct print medium; and a printing mode setting unit 41 which sets an intermediate transfer printing mode for operating a feeding unit, a conveying unit, a print unit, a transfer unit and further a winding unit on the basis of the determined result of the determining unit 40, or a direct printing mode for operating the feeding unit, the conveying unit, the print unit, and a direct print medium discharge unit 16.
